My Dress-Up Darling was an absolute gem while it was airing. It was one of those anime that took on a life of its own and shattered people's expectations. That's not to say everyone loved it, but I can guarantee there are more people who loved it than hated it. As of this article being published, there's no word on season 2. That hasn't stopped hardcore My Dress-Up Darling fans from getting their kick somewhere else. There's still plenty of My Dress-Up Darling content if you know where to look for it. The manga soars past where the anime ended, and fans are buying the manga in droves. In fact, so many people have bought the manga that the series has now sold over 6.5 million copies of My Dress-Up Darling!
I wish I could say I'm surprised, but I'm genuinely not. Not only does My Dress-Up Darling deserve every single one of the sales, but sales started picking up months ago. Within a few weeks of the anime airing the series sold an additional million units. It was only two weeks ago that we heard of the series hitting its 6 million unit milestone. Another half a million units in just two weeks? Please, Marin will crush that record again soon enough.
All joking aside, a huge congratulations is in order. I can only imagine how ecstatic Shinichi Fukuda must be with these numbers. We know she was impressed by the anime since she actually cried tears of joy when she saw it! This silly, slightly spicy romcom, is really something special, and more people than ever are simping for Marin. I've been tempted to grab the manga myself but have been unable to. Every copy of My Dress-Up Darling has been sold out in my city since the anime started airing. That's how hardcore some of these people are.
Granted, there's also apparently a manga shortage going on, so... make of that what you will.
Seriously, congratulations Shinichi Fukuda. My Dress-Up Darling is a certified hit. Now, if you could just put in a good word and get a second season going, that would be great.
