Harley and Poison Ivy
Harley Quinn Season Three To Pay Homage To Batman: The Animated Series

I can't wait for Harley Quinn to return for season three! It's one of the best DC animated series out there, along with Batman: The Animated Series! Now we know Harley Quinn season three is going to pay homage to Batman: The Animated Series! That's pretty awesome! Not just because BTAS is an awesome show, but Harley Quinn first appeared there! It's not exactly a big secret, but Harley Quinn didn't debut in the DC Comics. She was created for Batman: The Animated Series but was so popular she jumped over to the DC universe proper! Now, Harley Quinn is giving credit where it is due by homaging where she came from!

It's been almost two years since Harley Quinn ended its second season and we've barely heard anything about the third season... until recently! Yeah, we've known a few details and we got that teaser at the DC FanDome, but no huge news. Now it seems like all the news is hitting us at once, which is certainly exciting! It's crazy to think that once upon a time we didn't even know if Harley Quinn would be returning, once DC Universe shut down. This week alone we've heard James Gunn will be cameoing as himself, Harvey Guillen will be playing Nightwing, and the homage episode news as well.

Patrick Schumacker, co-creator of the series, talked about it during an SXSW panel. Here's what he had to say!

"We have an episode that's a big love letter to Batman: The Animated Series. We even got some original backgrounds from the show that we use in the episode."

That's just in regards to the one episode! Here's what Justin Halpern, co-showrunner, had to say previously in regards to Harley Quinn season three and what we can expect from Ivy and Harley's relationship!

"When we were talking about where a third season could go, the first thing we both said is, 'We don't want to do a third season where it feels like the stakes are [whether] Harley and Ivy stay together. It's much more interesting to do a show about how you navigate these very different personalities being in a relationship. And what are the fun things that can come out of that? What are the outside influences that can make that relationship tough but without the stakes being, 'Are they going to break up? Are they not?' So yeah, if there's a third season, which I hope there will be, the stakes will not be, 'Are Harley and Ivy going to stay together?' They're a couple."

There is no word on a release date for Harley Quinn season three yet.
