The September 2022 Nintendo Direct was pretty spectacular! The biggest news was, without a doubt, the information on The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom. The Breath Of The Wild sequel is perhaps the most anticipated Nintendo Switch game coming out. Heck, it might even be the most anticipated game for next year period. I'm excited too! But there were a ton of other awesome announcements, too! For example, the next mainline Fire Emblem entry is coming to the Switch this January! The game is titled Fire Emblem: Engage and will even feature old Fire Emblem characters, such as Marth.
There was a trailer, of course, and I'm going to share it with you below!
So, as revealed in the trailer, the game will take place in the continent of Elyos. A thousand years ago they sealed an evil Fell Dragon. The main character will be someone named Alear. Alear is a Divine Dragon, and with allies at their side Alear will try and collect the Emblem Rings. It's all pretty basic Fire Emblem stuff, though on your journey you'll recruit old characters like Marth and Celica. Honestly, the summoning of previous Fire Emblem heroes reminds me of the mobile Fire Emblem game.
The game itself looks really slick! I can't really explain what stood out to me, but it looked improved over Three Houses. Maybe it's the way it zooms in on the map. I don't know how to describe it but the battlefields feel more... realistic? When it zoom it it doesn't create a generic background. Not that Three Houses particulalry was guilt of that, but... don't mind me, I'm just rambling! I'm excited!
What's funny about this game is it sounded suspiciously like the Fire Emblem game that was teased a while ago. Leaks were rampant about a game for Fire Emblem's anniversary that would feature the return of several characters from the series. Guess the leaks weren't completely wrong, based on the announcement of Fire Emblem Engage.
You won't be waiting too long for the next mainline Fire Emblem entry! Fire Emblem Engage releases on January 20, 2023 for the Nintendo Switch!
