Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion Coming This Winter! Crisis Core Remake Confirmed!

The Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Stream was an awesome time if you love Final Fantasy VII. Or a miserable time if you hate the Remake. For me, it was wonderful and I really enjoyed all the news we got. A confirmation that the Final Fantasy VII Remake series would be a trilogy. We got a trailer for Final Fantasy: Ever Crisis and most surprising of all... Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is getting a remake. Crisis Core originally came out on the PSP years ago and received mixed reviews. The remake is titled Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion and will release this Winter!

This is exciting stuff, and you probably want to see the trailer by now. Well, here you go!

As I mentioned above, the original game came out for the PSP and this was all the way in 2008! The entire game is a prequel to the original Final Fantasy VII and while in my opinion is pretty good, was rather polarizing at the time. A lot of Final Fantasy VII fans weren't on board with a lot of additions the game made to the Final Fantasy VII world. Genesis, Angeal, and the history of the buster sword were widely considered unnecessary additions. Other things, such as fleshing out Zack's backstory and showing his relationship with Aerith were far better received.

This game might be more important than ever when put in context with the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Those who played that game were shocked to find the ending to that game played out at some point in the Remake. Even more shocking was how Crisis Core protagonist, Zack, survived the event in Crisis Core and is seen dragging Cloud back to Midgar. There was also a scene in the Yuffie DLC where he seems to be searching for Aerith at the church they met. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part of the remake, will need to address this.

There are too many questions to answer, and we won't have answers until both of these games are released. They could make some changes to Crisis Core to tie it into the Remake games, and we don't know whether these events with Zack are happening in the Remake game or another universe or... I can't even speculate further on that. Since Final Fantasy VII's Remake has veered so far off course and turned into an alternate universe/sequel kind of game, anything could happen.

I have strong suspicions this new version of Crisis Core will feature at least some changes, turning it into a Remake prequel as opposed to an OG Final Fantasy VII prequel.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy Reunion will release this Winter on PS4, PS5, Xbox consoles, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
