Dead Space is one of my favorite games of all time. There has not been a single horror game released since that has captured the same atmosphere as the original Dead Space. A master class in gameplay, interactive storytelling, and spookiness, I've longed for a new Dead Space game for a long time. Dead Space 2 was good, but Dead Space 3 was a pretty huge departure from the original games. Too action-oriented and less scary. Now, some of the people behind Dead Space are making a brand new game. It's not a Dead Space game but it might as well be! The Callisto Protocol looks like everything I've wanted from a horror game for a long time. We saw some gameplay during the Playstation State Of Play event, and now we got some more gameplay during the Summer Game Fest 2022. Yeah, this looks suspiciously like Dead Space without necromorphs. Including the return of stomping.

There isn't a whole lot about the game that we know yet. Apparently, the game takes place on Callisto, one of Jupiter's moons. There's a prison there, Black Iron Prison, and it seems like that's where the game is going to be taking place. We don't know yet what's going on at this prison, or why everything has gone to hell. It's dark, scary, and completely bonkers though. I don't care though, I can't wait to be stomping people down.

Ironically enough, though this looks a lot like a spiritual successor to Dead Space, especially with people who made the original game involved, there's an actual Dead Space remake coming. EA is releasing a complete remake of the first Dead Space game that is releasing in January. The Callisto Protocol is coming out in December, so it looks like Dead Space Remake is going to have some serious competition.

Callisto Protocol will release on December 2, 2022 for Playstation 5, Playstation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
