Batgirl and Black Canary
Batgirl HBO Max Film Could be Setting Up the Black Canary Film

Are you excited for the upcoming Batgirl film on HBO Max? I know I am, and I hope a ton of other Batgirl fans are as well. Batgirl hasn't had the honor of having her own film yet, though there was a live-action Batgirl in one of the older Batman films. Finally, though, Barbara Gordon will have her own chance to shine when Batgirl hits HBO Max sometime in the future. Leslie Grace and the directors spent some time discussing the film at the DC FanDome 2021, which got people quite excited. We even got a confirmation that Leslie's Batgirl would have a cowl! Now, it is looking like the Batgirl film will also be used to set up the upcoming Black Canary film which will feature Jurnee Smollett returning to the role of the titular Black Canary.

This is notable for quite a few reasons, including the fact that this could potentially lead to a proper Birds of Prey film, one that isn't entirely focused on Harley Quinn. This could be the first step to seeing Batgirl and Black Canary team up in live-action for the first time. Properly, anyway. This is by no means a confirmation but it's certainly an interesting turn of events, one that DC fans have taken note of. Batgirl and Black Canary aren't the only films heading to HBO Max, Blue Beetle is coming at some point as well. It's possible that all of these projects will end up being linked, which would be really exciting.

This news comes courtesy of RPK, who claims they have heard that Batgirl leads into Birds of Prey. Even though it's technically a rumor, it wouldn't exactly be surprising. Superhero films are all about building a shared universe these days. I mean, the MCU has been incredibly influential in this. Even though the DCEU hasn't had the same level of success, there's no reason to think Warner Media wouldn't want crossovers of some kind.

I said it above and I'll say it again here, though. This is just a rumor for now, so take it with a grain of salt. But also don't be surprised if Batgirl sets up the Black Canary movie.
