Rent-A-Girlfriend 2X05 Review - "Birthday And Girlfriend"

The newest episode of Rent-A-Girlfriend is here, and I'm excited to be reviewing another episode this week! We're taking a look at Rent-A-Girlfriend 2x05 titled "Birthday And Girlfriend". The only thing the preview confirmed last week was the power rangers, and a birthday. Let's see if the premise disappointed.

For a girl who claims to only be Kazuya's neighbor, Mizuhara sure doesn't seem to have liked the fact that Ruka stayed over. Luckily we don't have to dance around the subject, since she brings it up within the first few minutes of the episode... much to Kazuya's dismay. I can't blame her for thinking that Kazuya slept with Ruka. I'd have made the same assumption, and it's not like she knows how obsessed/in love with her he is.

We also finally get to see Suki for the first time this season! Kazuya takes her out so she can help him pick a gift for Chizuru, who won't listen to him about Ruka. It was nice to see Sumi, though, as I think she's the cutest out of all the girlfriends. That scene with the hat was wholesome as heck, and seeing her barely talk gives me some serious Komi vibes.

Sumi dragging Kazuya around was expectedly adorable, especially in the elevator. Her little punches and kicks could make the Grinch's heart grow three sizes. But this isn't where I expected the power rangers to come into play... not that I really had a guess on that at all. Upon realizing it was Mizuhara playing the pink ranger, I freaking laughed.

Though, things are going to get even more complicated with Sumi's apparent interest in Kazuya, who is, of course, oblivious. She's adorable though, and seems the least prone to drama so maybe Kazuya should ditch everyone else and pick her. It would sure make things simpler, but I guess the show would probably end up getting pretty boring. That whole birthday thing will undoubtedly come up again, or I don't think Sumi would have made a big deal of asking for his.

I never would have guessed that the gift to Mizuhara would be pickled plums, but hey, she seemed to like them. At least Kazuya put some thought into them, since they're supposed to help with fatigue. At the very least, it looks like he's redeemed himself for the Ruka incident. No idea where we go from here, and this episode was certainly weaker than the last, but I'm still excited.

Rent-A-Girlfriend season two is currently airing weekly on Crunchyroll.
