The Batman: Robert Pattinson Says it is More of a Detective Story

The Batman is quickly approaching, so as you can imagine the press tour is in full swing. We've been learning tons of details about the film. No spoilers, thankfully, but it's still cool to see what the actors and crew have to say about the film. Robert Pattinson worked on this film for a long time, so he's probably as excited to see it release as we are! He's talked about the film at length over the last little while. Recently he spoke with GQ, where he revealed he watched a rough cut of the film by himself! He says the very first shot of the film establishes it as a detective story, which falls in line with what we've heard. Since early on in production rumors have been circulating that this film would feature a more detective-oriented Batman. That's great! It should help the film stand out compared to previous Batman films, which all featured a ton of action. Sure, Batman can kick ass but let's not forget he got his start in detective comics and not kickass comics.

Here is what Pattinson told GQ while discussing the film.

“I watched a rough cut of the movie by myself. And the first shot is so jarring from any other Batman movie that it’s just kind of a totally different pace. It was what Matt was saying from the first meeting I had with him: ‘I want to do a ’70s noir detective story, like The Conversation.’ And I kind of assumed that meant the mood board or something, the look of it. But from the first shot, it’s, Oh, this actually is a detective story. And I feel like an idiot, because I didn’t even know that Batman was ‘the world’s greatest detective’; I hadn’t heard that in my life before—but it really plays. Just ’cause there’s a lot of stuff where he’s in amongst the cops. Normally, when you see Batman he arrives and beats people up. But he’s having conversations, and there are emotional scenes between them, which I don’t think have been in any of the other movies.”

The Batman is coming out in less than a month, so it really is time to get hyped. In fact, tickets go on sale tomorrow, which is incredibly exciting. I know I'm grabbing some tickets for an IMAX showing and I will be restless until I finally get my butt in that seat. Are you guys as excited as I am?
