Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet starters
Pokémon Generation 9 Announced: Pokémon Violet And Pokémon Scarlet Arrive In Late 2022!

Well, people didn't think it was actually going to happen but it did! The next generation of Pokémon has been announced! Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be released at some point in late 2022, meaning it is coming out about a year after Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl. Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy Pokémon as much as the next guy but it's getting to be too much. With that being said, I'm being cautiously optimistic about Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. We didn't see much, other than a few clips of the new region in terms of gameplay. We did get to see the new starters though, which is pretty awesome! Though call me a Genwunner, I dislike two-thirds of the new starters. I think the new grass starter. the fox-looking one, is adorable though.

Before we get any further go ahead and check out the trailer for yourselves! Still surprised this was shown at the Pokémon Direct this morning.

So, as you can see this really is a new generation of Pokémon. It looks like it's going to be a whole new region, a whole new set of Pokémon and a brand new adventure you can only find on the Nintendo Switch. I had a strong suspicion we would be seeing Gen 9 this year but I have to admit I'm rather disappointed. I was really hoping they would take an extra year to really polish this games, but like I said above I'm cautiously optimistic.

Let's get to the other big reveal though... the Gen 9 starters! We got to see all three brand new starters in the trailer, which is fairly exciting. The grass one looks like a fox, the fire one looks like a... weird dinosaur? Honestly, it kind of reminds me of a deconstructed Yoshi. Finally, we got the water starter which looks like a Ducklett with hair. I maintain that only the grass one looks decent at all, but that's just my opinion. So far it seems like the internet does not agree with me at all.

The internet seems to love the new critters.

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet will be out in late 2022.
