The Summer Game Fest 2022 was the place to be for gaming news on Thursday! We got new game announcements, updates on already announced upcoming games, and all kinds of other goodies! Well, actually it was mostly those two things. That's exciting in and of itself. One game we got an update on is the upcoming One Piece JRPG, One Piece: Odyssey! The game is a turn-based RPG set in the mega-popular One Piece universe! Graphically it looks just about as good as the show, and no doubt that's the Japanese voice cast in the trailer. And what about the story? Well, that's being written by the big man himself! Eichiro Oda! That should make sure the story is up to snuff compared to the quality we expect from One Piece!
As if all of that wasn't exciting enough One Piece is celebrating its 25th anniversary! That's 25 years of pirate fun, with who knows how many more years to go! Their journey is definitely closer to its end though. Eichiro Oda just recently announced that he's taking a short hiatus before he begins working on the final arc of One Piece. I don't know if this still holds true, but I remember reading years ago that Oda said he was going to write the biggest war ever seen in manga. If that's true we're in for one hell of a ride in that final One Piece arc.
There is also a One Piece film coming out, One Piece: Red. The film will focus on Shanks, one of the most mysterious characters in One Piece.
As for the trailer? Well, it honestly didn't show us very much. Don't get me wrong, the game looks cool but... this trailer didn't really highlight much gameplay. Mostly it was a cutscene that highlighted each of the characters one by one. That's not a bad thing, I'd just like to finally see this turn-based combat in action! Hopefully, we see it in action sooner rather than later.

"During their voyage, the Straw Hats, led by Monkey D. Luffy are swallowed by a huge storm at sea. They end up on a mysterious island full of nature amidst the storm and become separated from each other. The crew sets out on a new adventurous journey filled with wonders of a raging nature, powerful enemies, and strange encounters with island locals. Work together with Luffy and his crew to set sail once again!"
