Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern
Green Lantern Director Regrets Making The Ryan Reynolds Film

The Green Lantern director regrets making the film in the first place! It's really hard to blame him when you take a look back at the movie. Green Lantern was not well received, and that's me being nice about it. It is widely considered to be one of the worst superhero films of all time, which is saying something. It was panned for its overuse of CGI, not a great script, and other strange choices. Ryan Reynolds was praised as a fairly solid lead, but sadly, he wasn't able to save the movie from being terrible. Having seen it myself quite recently, I can definitely confirm the film isn't the best. It's a shame since Green Lantern is one of the more popular DC superheroes.

The film could have been good. It's not like he's a bad director or anything. Martin Campbell, the director of Green Lantern, has made huge films including a pretty famous Bond film. He was the man who directed Casino Royale, which though I haven't seen I've heard nothing but good things about. Though he's recently stated that he wouldn't do another superhero movie he's making it abundantly clear in this new interview. It's rare for him to bring Green Lantern up but now he's said he regrets making the film.

Here's what Campbell said when he spoke to Screen Rant:

"No, I'm not good at superhero movies. Green Lantern? People didn't like that movie, and frankly, I shouldn't have done it. I did it because I've never done one. You work just as hard on the movies that really are not successful as you do on the ones that are. I think there are people better qualified than me to do a superhero movie."

Yeah, so he's not exactly proud of the film but you can't really blame him. A lot of people hate Green Lantern, including its star Ryan Reynolds. Ryan Reynolds has shared his hate for the film several times, including poking fun at it in his Deadpool films. It's not all bad though, because believe it or not, Reynolds met his wife while working on the film, Blake Lively.

Here's what he said when he spoke to the SmartLess podcast.

"I met Blake on the darkest crease in the anus of the universe called Green Lantern. And we were friends and buddies and then, about a year and a half later, we actually went out on a double date, but we were dating separate people...We hung out and kind of, you know, we always kind of kept in touch but sort of casually. And then next thing you know, she was going to Boston. I was going to Boston. So I was like, 'I'll ride with you.' We got on the train and rode together and then I was just begging her to sleep with me."

You might think this film killed any chance of future Green Lantern content, but that isn't the case! Green Lantern is supposed to hit HBO Max at some point with a brand new series! Here's hoping it's at least a little better than the film.
