Don't Expect Any Kingdom Hearts IV News Any Time Soon Says Tetsuya Nomura

Kingdom Hearts IV was one of the most surprising announcements of the year, in my opinion! A welcome one for sure, since I love the Kingdom Hearts series, but now the wait is on again. If we're lucky we won't wait nearly as long as we did for Kingdom Hearts III. Don't expect any Kingdom Hearts IV news anytime soon though, and I'm not saying that to be funny. This comes from Tetsuya Nomura himself, so if I were you I'd take his word for it. He did a short interview with Famitsu, a Japanese publication, where he spoke about some of the upcoming Kingdom Hearts projects. This interview was all the Kingdom Hearts IV news we can expect for the foreseeable future. So, was there anything cool announced?

Not really...

He talked about the engine for Kingdom Hearts IV. He confirmed what many already suspected: the trailer we saw was made in Unreal Engine 4 but the game is actually being developed with Unreal Engine 5. Future footage may or may not include footage from Unreal Engine 5, which I suspect just means the next trailer may not have the Unreal Engine 5 footage. We also learned that Oka Masaru and Akiko Ishibashi are joining him to work on Kingdom Hearts IV. The two hail from Kingdom Hearts III and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

There's a girl who knows about Quadratum that will appear in Kingdom Hearts IV but not much was said about her. It sounds like she might be a Verum Rex original. He touched on the new villains, the Lost Masters, and he compared them to Organization XIII. More questions were raised when he confirmed that the five masters vanished and it's unknown whether or not they'll appear in Kingdom Hearts IV.

So, not much to reveal for now, but Kingdom Hearts fans are used to this. To be honest I'm having a hard time getting over the fact that we're deciphering Nomura interviews again. I feel like I stepped into a time machine, dissecting everything Nomura does for information on Kingdom Hearts. My abusive relationship with the series is alive and well it seems.

I promised I wouldn't do this again, but I've already been proven wrong.

Kingdom Hearts IV is in development but there's no word on any release date. Hopefully, Square Enix doesn't wait too long to update us.
